Kitchen trends 2023:
Real wood veneer is becoming increasingly popular for kitchen furniture

Bonn. People who cook today no longer just want to prepare food. The ambience also has to be right. Chic kitchen fronts are almost a matter of course. It should be individual, but also sustainable. The trendy natural material veneer offers all this: The thinly cut solid wood is creating a cozy living character in more and more households - away from the former functional room and towards a part of the domestic idyll.

The fact that the functional areas of the home are increasingly being separated and merged with one another means that living is generally becoming more homelike. "The former functional space of the kitchen is taking on a cozy living character, as is the former hygiene space of the bathroom. Both are becoming homey and cozy," says Ursula Geismann, a longtime living analyst and managing director of the Initiative Furnier + Natur (IFN). Veneered surfaces are playing an increasingly important role here: they captivate with their individual and unique patterns, and the color of every veneer surface is always a little different - pure nature! Real wood veneer of light oak or dark walnut is currently particularly in demand in the kitchen. A black coked look or velvety smoked veneer look extravagant and thus also meet the taste of passionate cooks. "The kitchen today is about sensitivities and moods and, above all, about communication and conviviality," says Geismann, explaining further, "With real veneer surfaces, the kitchen becomes a cozy zone of hopefully passionate enjoyment of the food being prepared."

Light and sound for an exuberant cooking mood In addition to attractive veneer, a number of other trends define the appearance of a contemporary kitchen: intelligent lighting technology ensures optimal preparation and enjoyable cooking. "Today, functional light can be transformed into atmospheric mood lighting with a click via smartphone control. LED light is also extremely economical in terms of power consumption. As a trend for real aesthetes who are tired of the traditional and famous kitchen radio, sound systems are on offer. The speakers find their place behind special skirting boards or cabinet doors. No loudspeaker is visible, but the sound of your favorite music resounds through the kitchen zone at the desired volume," says Geismann.

When it comes to sinks, manufacturers have also developed some innovations with great features. For example, there are single-arm faucets from which come a wide variety of water types, from cold to hot to bubbly. "Kitchen equipment manufacturers are a very innovative branch of the home furnishings industry, with their ever-changing ideas. Sinks and hoods can be recessed, water comes out of the faucet as you need it, and refrigerators can be custom-printed with your choice of room wallpaper, a photo, or a piece of art. You don't leave fingerprints on modern countertops, and all this modern technology combined with the sustainable raw material wood and its veneer puts you in the mood for a new kitchen," concludes the living analyst.
